Inductive probes are useful in a variety of applications where precision measurements are required. However, sometimes these applications involve prolonged submersion in liquids where standard probes would not survive. Standard probes are rated IP67, meaning they can only withstand temporary immersion between 15cm and 1m for 30 minutes; they typically have a stainless-steel housing body that salt water or corrosive fluids can corrode and the epoxy can degrade when submerged.

Lion Precision’s submersible probes are designed to provide non-contact displacement measurements while submerged in saltwater or corrosive fluids for an extended period of time. To withstand this corrosion, Lion Precision’s submersible inductive probes are completely made from a hard plastic called PEEK. By making the entire probe from one solid piece of PEEK, we effectively eliminate any metal or epoxy joints that can deteriorate over time. Finally, the cable exit is thoroughly sealed to prevent any fluid leakage. Because this process is merely a modification to our standard probes, the same top-of-the-line specs our standard probes have will apply to our submersible probes as well.

The primary benefit that our submersible probes provide is non-contact displacement and runout measurements while submerged in salt water or corrosive fluids for long periods of time. Our probes can be used for a variety of different applications and markets including submarines, offshore oil production and ships.
